C2408TCH Admiral Nelson

                        by Comitti of London

The Admiral Nelson Grandfather has been created by Comitti of London to commemorate the extraoridnary achievements of Admiral Horation Nelson in 1805. At the Battle of Trafalgar the British Navy led by Nelson defeated the combined forces of the French and Spanish navies, ending Napolean's efforts to rule all of Europe and the New World.

The case is handmade from sold cherry with fine burr yew veneers inlaid with "rope" edgeline to the waist and base. The veneers are book-matched to create a mirror image to the grain on the front, the waist, and the base. Finally, each cabinet is hand-rubbed and waxed to achieve an antiqued finish with light distressing.

The Admiral Nelson is fitted with the finest quality German triple chime cable movement that plays Westminister, Whittington and St. Michael melodies; it has a chime silencer selector, automatic night silencer selector, automatic chime sequence correction and automatic beat adjustment for setting the pendulum.

The hand-painted rocking ship dial features naval scenes from the Battle of Trafalgar. British naval ships are "engaged" with Spanish and French ships. Portraits of Admiral Nelson and Captain Thomas Hardy, his second in command, are also featured. The flagship, HMS Victory rocks with the swing of the pendulum. The dial was painted by Alan Asher, who has restored antique dials for over 30 years.

Pinch-Waist Style The Admiral Nelson is an exquisite example of the clockmakers' art created by one of the oldest clockmakers in the world, Comitti of London, a family run business, established in London, 1850.
